Outdoor Church

North Prospect Union Church in cooperation with churches in Harvard and Porter Squares in Cambridge, is a founding congregation for the Outdoor Church in Cambridge, led by former church member and ordained minister, The Rev. Jed Mannis.

In a continuation of the ministry to this mission North Prospect Union commits to a sizable financial contribution to the Outdoor Church each year. North Prospect Union members also provide sandwiches for the Outdoor Church on the second Sunday of every month. Please join in by bringing sandwiches to worship on the second Sunday and making financial contributions to the mission.

The Outdoor Church is a ministry to chronically homeless men and women in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  We offer prayer services and pastoral assistance outdoors in all seasons and all weather in order to be more accessible to men and women who, because of embarrassment or shame, hostility or illness, cannot or will not enter conventional churches.  We take the church to those who cannot or will not reach it on their own. Our weekly ministries include two outdoor services of prayer and communion every Sunday in Porter Square and Cambridge Common; a Sunday afternoon walking ministry in Harvard Square and Central Square; outdoor meals on Saturday and Sunday; visits to shelters, prisons and hospitals; and a small-group Bible study. All are welcome. See the website (www.theoutdoorchurch.net) for more about the Church, including times & locations of services, stories from the news, church partners, maps of the walking ministry route, and online donations. To contact Rev. Jedediah Mannis or the Outdoor Church, please call 978 456 0047 or send an email to outdoorchurch.director@gmail.com.
